Home Health Aide (Licensed Nursing Assistant)
Job Summary
The Licensed Nursing Assistant provides services to people who are elderly, or who have disabilities or long-term illnesses, and their families. This support may be offered in the home or in the community under the supervision of the Living Innovations Home Care Director of Client Services. Services include personal care and health related tasks and possibly assistance with housekeeping or other related supportive tasks for the client.
Qualifications:
- Has successfully completed a state approved Nurse's Aide training program, passed a competency test, maintains the required twelve (12) hours of in-service annually, and is licensed as required by the state
- Is caring and compassionate
- Has good judgment and problem solving ability when dealing with clients
- Practices good hygiene and has a neat and clean appearance
- Is free from health problems that may be harmful to clients or co-workers
- Has received appropriate Living Innovations Home Care training relevant to:
- Methodology of assisting clients to achieve maximum independence
- Principles of nutrition and meal preparation
- Principles of the aging process
- An understanding of the emotional problems of illness
- Maintenance of a safe, clean and healthy environment
- Incidents/changes that must be reported to LIHC
- Maintaining client confidentiality as well as identifying violations in confidentiality and human rights and reporting such to the Clinical Director or designee
- Acting as an important part of the home care team
- Provides and maintains appropriate and timely records
- Must be able to read, write and maintain records in English
- Follows Universal Precautions and Infection Control when performing all aspects of client care
- Follows the emergency procedures in the event of any incident, accident, or change in the client's condition
Responsibilities:
- Bath/shower
- Oral hygiene
- Care of hair
- Ordinary care of nails
- Routine skin care
- Positioning and turning of clients
- Elimination
- Dressing
- Shaving with electric razor
Assists with:
- Ambulation
- Transferring
- Bedpan or the bathroom
- Hoyer lift
- Prosthesis
- Specialized equipment
- Vital signs
- Intake and output
- Condom catheter application
- Care of Foley catheter including perineal care and care of drainage bag
- Stool for guaiac and urine for glycosuria
- Elastic support stockings
- Reminders for medication as prescribed by physician
- Meal planning and preparation
- Feeding
- Linen charging
- Client laundry
- Light housekeeping
The Following Procedures are not Permitted:
- Medication administration
- Handling of any dressing
- Administering an enema
- Colostomy irrigation
- Injection administration
- Make judgments or give advice on any medical issues
- Performing any care not indicated on the plan of care
- Witnessing any legal document
- Cutting toe or finger nails
- Massaging legs
- Foley irrigation
- Operation of a respirator
Organizational Relationship:
The LNA reports to the LIHC Clinical Director.
Functional Abilities:
- Able to lift, turn and transfer clients
- Able to carry bundles up a flight of stairs
- Able to stoop and bend
- Has reliable transportation
- Must be able to read, write and speak in a manner understood by most persons
