The Personal Care Support Provider Program

A New, More Flexible Alternative

The Personal Care Support Provider (PCSP) program is a consumer-directed, non-medical, hands-on personal care program. The program is designed to provide personal care services that help eligible individuals to live in a community setting. PCSP services are similar to home health aide and homemaker services traditionally provided by visiting nurse associations and home health agencies.

How is the consumer-directed option different?

The biggest difference is who is in control. With the consumer-directed PCSP option, the individual or their representative may choose to be in charge of locating, hiring and training their PCSP worker. This allows the individual or representative to control who the PCSP worker will be, how the personal care services will be provided, and when the services will be provided. The duties of the worker can be flexible depending on the individual's needs and daily schedule. As an alternative, Living Innovations is able to direct and supervise care.

Who is eligible for the PCSP Program?

Anyone in need of personal care is eligible for PCSP services. Medicaid-eligible persons who desire to direct their own services or who have an authorized representative to supervise the care may choose the consumer-directed option.

Who can be a Personal Care Support Provider -- and what can they do?

A Personal Care Support Provider can be a neighbor, friend, relative, or someone else you wish to hire who completes a free 40-hour training program. A publicly-funded PCSP may not be the individual's legally responsible relative, legal guardian, representative, or a person granted power of attorney. A PCSP can assist with any of the following tasks:

• Housekeeping and cleaning
• Meal planning and cooking
• Errands and shopping
• Paying bills
• Basic personal care and grooming
• Dressing
• Transfer assistance
• Mobility assistance
• Assistance with toileting and hygiene
• Assistance with personal appliances
• Assistance with self administration of medication
• Community integration
• Driving
• Pet Care
• Yard Work
